Welcome back, my curly friends!
So a lot of life has happened since our last post- a global pandemic, a wedding, and going on two school years. Lori and I kind of assumed that The Curly Classroom was done, but with the rise of STAAR 2.0 in Texas, I couldn't quit it. New question types reminded me of favorite curly strategies, and so I'm back!
A few thoughts on the new assessment:
- 75% of it is what we've always done, the way we've always done it
- I'm not mad about the new 25%. It reflects best teaching practices- justifying with text evidence (!!!!!!), writing in response to reading, extending thinking to more than one correct answer...
- The instructional focus is on student's thinking. (praise hands)
- Text evidence will be a huge focus in instruction and assessment. How do you know that? What did you read that let you know __?
In other words, I really think our curly classrooms have got this!
Over the next weeks, I'm going to link back to strategies that promote thinking that aligns to the new question types. The hope is that it's a handy resource to use for planning.
It feels good to be back! I've missed you!
Oh, and I was the wedding...
